We’re going on’t telly

Thank you to everyone who came to see us at the Harrogate quilt show it was a brilliant weekend. And the new hall is amazing with loads of room to get around on the wide aisles it means that the experience is better for everyone. It would be great to hear feedback from any of you who were there.

So now to get ready for our next venture, we’re going on’t telly! we will be live on HOCHANDA which is listed as ‘The Store’ in the programme guide. You will find it on Freeview channel 39, Sky channel 663 and Freesat 817; we will be on next Saturday the 10th September at 11am and 2pm I think its fair to say I am getting a little nervous as the day gets closer. Michaela is coming with me and we will be doing two of her cushions (a matching pair) Hare Affair and Hare Today… followed by our Hedgerow series of wall hangings Dandy Fox, Bunny in the Brambles, A Hedgehog’s Friend and Mistletoe Mouse.I will be selling patterns and kits for each project on HOCHANDA’s website but don’t forget you can also buy them and many more designs on my website too.

So for the next few days I’m battening down the hatches to prepare all the goodies ready for the show. The turnaround is very tight and all parcels have to be posted out within 48 hours so lots of work to do!

the handmade fair logo

I am so excited to tell you that our Michaela has been accepted to teach in Kirstie’s grand make at The Handmade Fair, Hampton Court from the 16th to the 18th of September under the banner of Quilting Antics. This is so exciting, I have seen some of her ‘mock ups’ for the tweed brooches that she will be teaching and in true Michaela style they are simple but sensational. Her workshops will be at 10am each day of the show and I think tickets go on sale from tomorrow on The Handmade Fair website. Book early to avoid disappointment.

Sue’s House

Standard

Look what gem Sue has conjured up. We are often asked if we have projects for little girls to make and this delightful sewing case fits the bill beautifully. It is full of little pockets where you can hide all manner of tiny treasures. We are typing up the pattern today and it will knitted up for Malvern show next month. I hope you like it too.

bag pic

As I’ve been busy bragging about our new designs lately, I thought that I’d share this bag that we made recently. I bought some beautiful red leather to try working with and was amazed at how easy it was to work with; I cut out my Welsh dragon shape with paper scissors and stitched it on with regular needle and thread. So simple it felt like there must be a catch somewhere but there wasn’t. Hopefully I will get some more leather and have kits available for Malvern show in May. I’m not sure yet how much they will cost, the bag is a good size for a handbag with space for a bit of shopping too, it is fully lined with side pockets, has a zip closure at the top and I love it!

After all the fun of yesterday’s Blue Tit naming ceremony; we’ve decided to go with Erika’s suggestion of Sing Song Blue. Today we have another new cushion to name…we are literally on fire we are working so hard at the minute. Look at this gorgeous otter, illustrated by Sue  Lenehan, when he’s finished he will be chasing golden fish weaving in and out of subtle green weed round his circular cushion. The background is done in Bargello so that it looks like he is displacing the water as he swims full pelt through it (I’ve given an easier alternative in the pattern) and the foreground is done in really easy appliqué but combined I hope you agree they do look fab. So go on peeps, what shall I call this design?

If you like him the pattern will be available at Exeter next week.

What’s in my Garden

We’ve been working on our latest pair of sofa hogging cushions with the theme of ‘what’s in my garden’.

The first one, a woodpecker called ‘Peck it and See’ made appearances at Duxford and Malvern shows earlier this month and the second I hope will be finished for next week at Exeter but I need your help…it needs a name you will understand my dilemma when you start trying to think (Ann Hart if you are reading this stop giggling now!) Please feel free to send name suggestions

Linda’s Shopping Bag

Hi everyone, I hope you are you all snuggled up by the fire on this cold, dark, rainy evening.

Here is our newest creation ready for Kirstie Allsopp’s Christmas Handmade Fair at Manchester Central this Friday, Saturday and Sunday, ‘Linda’s shopping Bag’ designed to help you avoid having to buy plastic bags. I couldn’t decide which colourway I liked the best so I’ve pictured two. Thank you Vicky Black for your suggestions for the acorns, the vibrant colours work really well. If you want to buy the pattern or kit you can by visiting my website www.quiltingantics.co.uk

I added this pattern and kit to the website today. Which made me think about all the ones that I haven’t shared lately, we have been very busy creating new designs throughout the autumn show season and I haven’t shown off our goodies for a while so this is a purely bragging post.

The pattern for these scrumptious pumpkins has been a free give away to people who join our mailing list or buy things from us online. (Newsletter going out any day now if you’ve been waiting for your pattern.)

Michaela Smith came up with this brilliant design for a sewing case. I have plenty of kits available  in a variety of colours;  if you need an idea for Christmas prezzies for your sewing buddies these are brilliant

bunny pic

Bunny in the Brambles was an idea born whilst my daughter and I were at Sandown quilt show. The leaves were inspired by the ones that Michaela Smith
used on her awesome Holly and the Ivy wreath and the bunny is modelled on our very own French Lop Bruce. Bunny in the Brambles arrived as a fully completed project but when I came home and described it to Sue she got to work and tweaked it into what we have today. The blackberries were made using advice from Michaela  on simple stumpwork so the whole thing is a real team collaboration. Each person who contributed has added a little bit of magic to this wall hanging including my mother in law who disposed of the tatty old sticks I left by my back door thinking they were rubbish as it meant I had to source a new stick and I love the new one I found.

Do you remember that I shared my lovely kingfisher a while back? Well since then I’ve created the heron; they are made to go as a pair, which is your favourite?

Doorstop Diva

Last but not least here are my Doorstop Diva’s. A great bit of fun that can be jazzed up with handbag jewellery, beads and bells.

If you want to purchase any of the designs that I have bragged about tonight go to www.quiltingantics.co.uk and you will find these plus loads more other things as well.

For your info I seem to be posting much more on Facebook than here lately; so if you don’t want to miss a thing you can ‘like’ my Facebook page and you will get all the goss’. This week on Facebook I’m doing a giveaway of tickets to Kirstie Allsopps Christmas Handmade Fair so don’t miss out.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this post, thank you for indulging me 🙂

I feel like I’ve been working on these gorgeous tweed book covers for ages, I adore them. they are really tactile and would make fab presents. I need one for my diary, I need one for my notebook, my reading books, my cookbooks and so on and so on and so on.

back pic

look at the cheeky panel on the back!

The pattern is now on sale at £4.50 with kits to follow in the next few days which will cost £18.50 to cover an A5 size book and £19.50 to cover an A4 size book (price includes the pattern.)

They are a really good way of practising your free machine skills, I began by being a wimp and sewing using matching thread but as I got more confident I went over the top with black thread which absolutely brought the designs to life. As a bonus, I found, particularly with the Holly Cow where I was a bit too scruffy on the edges I could colour in a black patch and hide it.

If you don’t like free machining you could quite easily blanket or zig zag the applique. I am really pleased with my handiwork if you want to have a go, either comment on here or ring the shop on 01729 824708 and we will be pleased to sort you out.

advent calendar pic

Oh my golly gosh! I collected this amazing advent calendar from Michaela Smith yesterday; she is going to teach it as a class for us on the 5th of September which is the first Saturday of the month.

The calendar is made from a combination of cotton and tweed fabrics with a bit of Christmas bling in the form of gold on the windows.

I will prepare a kit so that everyone has all the right bits and bobs, kit price to follow as soon as I’ve worked it out. If you would like a place you can either let me know on here or by ringing the shop on 01729 824708

eek I’m so excited!
