I feel like I’ve been working on these gorgeous tweed book covers for ages, I adore them. they are really tactile and would make fab presents. I need one for my diary, I need one for my notebook, my reading books, my cookbooks and so on and so on and so on.

back pic

look at the cheeky panel on the back!

The pattern is now on sale at £4.50 with kits to follow in the next few days which will cost £18.50 to cover an A5 size book and £19.50 to cover an A4 size book (price includes the pattern.)

They are a really good way of practising your free machine skills, I began by being a wimp and sewing using matching thread but as I got more confident I went over the top with black thread which absolutely brought the designs to life. As a bonus, I found, particularly with the Holly Cow where I was a bit too scruffy on the edges I could colour in a black patch and hide it.

If you don’t like free machining you could quite easily blanket or zig zag the applique. I am really pleased with my handiwork if you want to have a go, either comment on here or ring the shop on 01729 824708 and we will be pleased to sort you out.

August is Christmas time for crafters

advent calendar pic

Oh my golly gosh! I collected this amazing advent calendar from Michaela Smith yesterday; she is going to teach it as a class for us on the 5th of September which is the first Saturday of the month.

The calendar is made from a combination of cotton and tweed fabrics with a bit of Christmas bling in the form of gold on the windows.

I will prepare a kit so that everyone has all the right bits and bobs, kit price to follow as soon as I’ve worked it out. If you would like a place you can either let me know on here or by ringing the shop on 01729 824708

eek I’m so excited!

Rustled these up today…

i pad and i phone

I was messing around this afternoon and I rustled up these swish and stylish tablet and phone cases which have a ribbon mechanism inside so that you can easily draw your device out of the case . Beautiful soft tweed inside and out, means for those of us who are fabric strokers they are a real must have. I can’t take my hands off mine; I’m so pleased with them and they only took just over an hour to make. I’ve written instructions to accompany kits which tell you how to make a case exactly the right size for your own device, the kits which contain everything you need, work out at £15.50 for the tablet case and £9.50 for the phone case. If you want one give us a ring on 01729 824708 or leave a message on here, we have loads of colours to choose from.

Do you like the changes?

What do you think? We’ve had a bit of a move round over the last few days. It’s not perfect yet but we are getting there. I was worried with our old style of display that we weren’t showing off all our new tweedy things as well as we could of. As the tweed is sold in rolls rather than on the bolt it is very difficult to do a ‘grand’ display, anyhow feedback is warmly welcomed if you would like to share your thoughts.

I have been beavering away with the web stuff once again, more photos and descriptions etc etc, it just seems to go on forever, I think its fair to say I’m not a natural techno person! I wrapped up about 75 new parcels of tweed yesterday ready to post out when the time comes and I’ve put a surprise free gift in them!! I love surprises, so I hope our customers will too…

P1080187

Good news! Whilst we were having our change round I found a very small piece of the red which we used on the pheasant; which means that we can make a couple more kits yippee! One is sold already, so if you want one get in touch sooner rather than later.

P1080186

I just had to slip a photo of these Burlap ribbons in, for no other reason than that I love love love them, there isn’t much of the rose one left as I used loads on my ‘Measure Twice’ sewing case so I will have to get some more pretty soon.

And now as they say…that’s all folks! I’m off to enjoy the rest of the evening sun with a long cold drink. Catch you soon 😉

Time to pull your finger out girl!

Time to pull your finger out girl!

Once again I’m trying to get going with this blinking electronic stuff! AARRGGHH!!

I’d like to promise that I’m going to be a good blogger and keep it up but life, as we’ve noticed, has a habit of getting in the way, anyway here’s a quick catch up… First of all I have been updating the commercial website and the good news is that it should be open again in a few days YAY!

The spring show season has just come to an end for me at Sandown Park Racecourse and I now have two months of craziness preparing for the autumn season; that thought is bonkers as it’s still only June isn’t it?

If we’ve met up over the last few months you will know that I have been selling increasing amounts of British wool tweed. As this is still a fairly new medium for British patchwork and quilters to use we have been producing as many kits and patterns as we can to inspire you and give you ideas on how to use it. I absolutely love tweed, it is so satisfying to work with; the only thing I do differently to when I’m sewing, with cotton, is to reinforce my seams with either an overlock, zig zag or equivalent automatic machine stitch so that the seams do not fray. As an added bonus, the cost of the tweed is offset because there is no need for wadding between the layers of your throws.

The little man has taken up dancing recently and I find that three days a week I am passing the time hand stitching at Sanderson’s World of Dance in Nelson whilst he is strutting his stuff, this has led me to realise that my sewing roll was not up to the job because my bits and bobs fall out of it, so one of the many patterns that we have produced is for a more contained piece if kit to store everything in. To that end, what do you think to my ‘Measure Twice’ sewing case?

insideThere are two pencil cases to store my pens and my rotary cutter, a huge pin cushion, brass loops to hold embroidery thread, large pocket for glasses and mobile phone, needle case, scissor holder, bobbin holder and then large outer pockets for stuffing patterns in.

front

I was a bit disappointed with the photos as they don’t do it full justice but I hope you will like it. If you want to buy a copy give us a ring on 01729 824708 we can also arrange to sell it in kit form.

Also what do you think to my Doorstop Diva’s? They were so easy to make and are set off by the huge wooden buttons. I may revisit this pattern and really go to town decorating them when I get a chance. For now if you want a copy or a kit give us a ring.

Have you got any ideas for things we can create with the tweed? If so let me know and I will have a bash. Thats it for now folks so hopefully I’ll be back again soon toodleoo 🙂

Preparing for Malvern show

Preparing for Malvern show

I think its fair to say I’m feeling a little stressed at the moment, three weeks off at Easter was definitely not what the doctor ordered. I had the two weeks school holiday off with the little man and then on the evening that he should have been going back to school he came down with the dreaded lurgy which he then passed on to me! So all  told that was three weeks lost aarrgghh!!

Anyway I’m back to it, I’ve been running around all over the place to various quilt groups and now we are up to our ears in show preparations. Averil has been an absolute brick this week…God, I love  that woman and I would be lost without her! but don’t tell her I said that hehehehe. She has been making kits for our Hare cushion

Hare Affair

and then as many Winter Lovin’ Tote’s as possible, in as many colourways as possible; this is a new take on our Summer Lovin’ Tote which has been a runaway success.

P1080110

Followed by as many Woodland friend kits as possible…

I’m hoping that before I leave on Tuesday for the show that I can cobble a few Holly and the Ivy wreath’s together.

November 9th. A kit will be provided for this class at an extra cost.

There are so many jobs yet to do, I’d better get my head down. I hope that I will see lots of you at the show. If you are going to Malvern I will be on the first stand that you see when you come through the door. See you soon x
